Pedro E. Guerrero Workshop
On Saturday, Oct 3, 2015, AETN outreach staffers, architectural photographers, North Little Rock Middle School ESL educators and students convened at the newly refurbished North Little Rock History Commission for an all-day workshop funded by a grant from WNET, New York City's Public Television affiliate. The focus of this initiative was based on the PBS documentary American Masters-"Pedro Guerrero: A Photographer's Journey."
Educators at the North Little Rock ESL middle school program choose the students for the workshop. Students watched the film, heard lectures on architectural photography, historic Argenta, social media and got instructions on how to use a digital camera. After lunch, they broke up into groups of students and mentors and head out for a three hour photography session in the streets of Argenta.
Everyone regrouped at the Art Connection for a Q&A session and a conversation about their photography session. The students then downloaded their images onto computers and had a critique by the workshop instructors and mentors. The best images have been professionally printed for an exhibition at the public screening of the Guerrero documentary at the Arkansas Arts Center on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
AETN thanks all of the students, educators and organizational partners for making this project such a grand success.
